Remaining Faithful to God in These Perilous Times of Moral and Truth Decay (2 Timothy 3:10-17)

We live in perilous times (2 Timothy 3:1) In fact, we only need to look at the moral decay in our society to see that we live in perilous times. The only question to be answered is, “How far will we go?” When will we say, enough is enough! Moreover, not only are we living in a time of moral decay but also truth decay. Many promise the truth but very few deliver.

So, how can we remain faithful to God in these perilous times of moral and truth decay? Remember, young Timothy was struggling against moral and truth decay in his ministry in Ephesus, and this struggle would have affected his walk with God. Therefore, Paul encouraged Timothy to follow his example (3:10-11), to realize the cost (3:12), and to continue in the word of God (3:13-17).

Sometimes, it is in our best interest to stop and ponder the faithful examples of those who have gone before us, the cost of faithfully serving God, and the importance of faithfully obeying God’s word. In doing this, we will remain faithful to God in these times of moral and truth decay.

May the words of Paul to Timothy be our encouragement this week as we seek to remain faithful to God! “But as for you, continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them” (2 Timothy 3:14).
